I realise this project has two issues.

Firstly, we are trying to create something for everyone. An open space that we can all enjoy.

After that, what shall we call it? Do we need to change the name?

I’m sure everyone will have an opinion (some of my cheeky mates have suggested I call it “Dave’s Quay”.)

If we are trying to create something magical, something to compliment the natural and man-made wonders that we have, let’s have a name that adds to the lustre.

As such, “Eternity Quay”  fits the bill nicely. It is uniquely “Sydney” and is in recognition of the street art of Arthur Stace. It also appeals on a number of levels.

With all due respect to those who have gone before us, once we have created something special and uniquely Sydney, the name “Circular Quay” is not enough.

To call the space “Eternity” with the lovely cursive writing style in which Arthur Stace wrote, adds more intrigue and creates its own quirky type of history, as he was one of us.

If you remember, the Millenium fireworks on the bridge honoured him so splendidly.

(I know it’s just me, but please, let’s not go for another “Federation Square” type of name. Besides, boring old Melbourne has already nabbed that one.)

We are Sydney, we are in the twenty-first century.

We are cheeky, loud and proud. We have come a long way in a relatively short time. I stress, “Eternity Quay” is not meant to be boastful, but we do love our city , its beauty and its people…past, present and future.

Let’s have a name that reflects this.
